I’ve seen first hand the hardship that hypothyroidism has had on my wife, so I can identify with the agony of those who suffer with thyroid or autoimmune problems. Yes, I know it can be stressful . . . especially when the stress of everyday life is combined with serious health issues. That’s what we call the perfect storm.
First off, you are not alone! I repeat, you are not alone! Millions of people are feeling just like you–suffering just like you. I also know that my telling you, “Don’t let the stress of your illness affect your life,” is way easier said than done. Still, I firmly believe that the path to healing your body starts from the inside–with a strong mind and body connection.
As humans, we can control very little when it comes to the complexities of life. So, maybe letting go really is part of the solution. Life should be taken one day at a time! Those worries that you’re holding onto, they certainly aren’t doing your mind and body any good. Baby steps!
Mind-Body medicine uses the power of thoughts and emotion to control physical health. Simply channeling the mind to influence the body can be one of the greatest stimulants for a healthy body. Start today! Control stress and help your body heal through the practice of:
- Meditation
- Healthy Diet
- Exercise
- Yoga
- Massage
- Acupuncture
Here’s an interesting perspective on the wisdom of managing stress:
A Psychologist walked around a room while teaching Stress Management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “Half empty or Half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired:
”How heavy is this glass of water?” Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz. She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed.
In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, But …The longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. She continued, ”The Stresses and Worries in Life , are like that Glass of Water…
Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And ……….If you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed –incapable of doing anything….!!!”
Remember to put the Glass Down!
